Seasonal Sundays: Pumpkin Season

Dare I say, Finally ?! My self-imposed "no pumpkin" rule gets harder as the calendar click-clicks off these last days of September. But yes at long last, this week's "Seasonal Seven" recipe collection is all about pumpkin, savory and sweet. I hope you'll find one or two destined as "keepers" in your own recipe repertoire.

My Homemade Baked Beans

Wow, people, for anyone who passes on the typical overly sweet and salty canned pork and beans, these sultry beans are a revelation. They're surprisingly easy to make, slow-cooked in the oven to infuse the beans with maple syrup, molasses and spices like smoked paprika and ginger. They're especially good with barbecue, just watch people come back for another helping the next time you put out a big platter of ribs or brisket or ... Happy Fall, Y'all! On this first official day of fall, join me in making something special to mark the beginning of a new season. Comeback Sauce

Hello, my fellow northerners, you're gonna love this southern staple, the simple no-cook condiment that's so good, people will definitely "come back" for more . (It's exactly what happens here!) It takes just 10 minutes to make, you may even already have all the ingredients on hand in your fridge and spice cupboard this very minute. After that? Just drizzle, dunk, daub or dip; spread, slather, swab or sop on anything except, well, a hot fudge sundae. (Sorry, old family joke. Couldn't help myself!) Seasonal Sundays' Five-Year Anniversary: My Signature Recipes (Week 38)

It's a special celebration today, the fifth anniversary of Seasonal Sundays, this weekly collection of recipes and life ideas in and out of the kitchen. I thought for a long while about how to mark the occasion, could I serve everyone a beet salad? share a slice of bread warm from the oven? Ha, no such possibility. So instead, I spent a couple of weeks identifying my most personal recipes, that ones my husband, family and friends know as "mine". Even my favorite five-year old knows that her "Auntie Al" is famous for special foods, her personal favorite are Easy Easy Magical Jello Bites, preferably in rainbow colors. 😍 Here you go!

Homemade Onion Dip

Okay, people, hear me out because I aim to make a good case for onion dip made from scratch, ditching those packets of salty onion soup mix, nixing those heavy tubs of overly thick onion dip. Why? Forget being "as good as" those processed-food versions. Instead, know that it's better than what you can buy, a real taste revelation, like a forgotten treat from another time . Intrigued? Make a quick batch asap using ingredients you probably already have on hand, then put it out with some chips before dinner or on a platter for a watch party or tailgate event. "What is this?" everyone will ask, reaching for another potato chip. Be gone, mass-produced onion dips! DIY Onion Dip, Retro Perfect & Made from Scratch. Some Times Called "French" Onion Dip or "California" Onion Dip But Neither French Nor Californian. A Vintage, Easy Tried-and-True Recipe. Extra Welcome When "Supper's a Little Skimpy". Pesto Pasta Primavera (TAKE TWO)

Hey, All. So sorry. Earlier today, I accidentally posted the "wrong" file for this recipe. So I'm re-posting it now, it's too good to miss! To open the "right" page, either (1) click the photo below or (2) click this link for Pesto Pasta Primavera . PS No more posting on four hours of sleep! This simple, adaptable pasta is everything you crave in a summer dish — vibrant, fresh, and impossibly easy. Imagine a pasta bowl brimming with the season's best tender-crisp zucchini, sweet bell peppers, and juicy tomatoes, all tossed in a bright, garlicky basil pesto that clings to every bite. But here’s the twist: the pasta plays a supporting role , just enough to carry the sauce and let those veggies shine. It’s a bowl of pure, green goodness, where the emphasis is on flavor and freshness, and the pasta is just a little indulgence in an otherwise gloriously light dish.
