Seasonal Sundays (Week 52) Christmas Week |
Welcome to Seasonal Sundays!
Tis the season! The halls are decked, strings of street lights blink red and green, sweet singing in the choir. Snow is glistening and Jack Frost nips at our noses so the fire is so delightful. With any luck, Mommy’s kissing Santa Claus, we’ll all be home for Christmas and faithful friends will gather near. Soon enough, the night will fall silent, upon the midnight clear. We’ll hear the bells on Christmas morn, our finest gifts we’ll bring. Joy to the World!
PICK ONE
Pick One is for those of us overwhelmed by life's unending choices. If that resonates, then check out this one recipe and then call it a day. It's one that I think could make the most difference, the one I hope will become a regular in your kitchen, as it is in mine.
Winter salads are a special thing and this is one of my stand-by salads during the winter. Perfect for Christmas morning? Yes! A festive supper? Yes! Just because? You bet.
I always include pomegranate seeds, this is helpful, The Quick & Easy Way to Remove the Seeds from a Pomegranate.
- Apple Yogurt Salad, just 15 minutes and mostly pantry ingredients
Seasonal Showcase: Festive Holiday Appetizers
I'm plain bad at appetizers, it's not a skill that comes naturally. But over the years, I've collected recipes that suit: last-minute and make-ahead, mostly pantry ingredients, not too fussy and most of all, appreciated!
- Smoked Salmon Spread, tastes rich and indulgent but low carb and WW friendly!
- Potato Bites with Smoked Salmon, if you love lox and bagels, you'll love this quick, impressive-looking bite-size appetizer!
- Party Nuts with Fresh Rosemary, roasted with just a touch of sweet and heat and fresh rosemary.
- Almond Cilantro Spread, one of three quick spreads for the holidays.
- Olivada & Olivada Appetizers, a luscious homemade olive spread with a little cheese and red pepper on thin-sliced bread, so pretty and festive!
- Bacon-Wrapped Dried Apricots, surprisingly low in calories!
- Mini Crab Bites, tiny portions of crab meat served in "spoons" of endive.
Ideas for Christmas Morning ...
I offer three simple pieces of advice for Christmas morning: make ahead, make ahead, make ahead.
- Overnight Coffeecake, easy and adaptable, mix it the night before, bake to serve hot and fresh in the morning.
- Breakfast Casserole with Sausage, Apples & Caramelized Onions, a make-ahead breakfast casserole, layers of sausage, apple and caramelized onion. Unusual and addictive!
- Eggnog French Toast with Apple Cranberry Compote, make-ahead, rich with eggnog, topped with a delicious cranberry-apple compote worthy on its own.
- Easy Green Chile Egg Casserole, skewing savory here, except, no bread!
Thinking Ahead to New Year's?
LOL I'm just trying to get through today, the day we host my husband's extended family, a wonderful annual tradition.
But I know some of you have it all together, here's a head start.
More for New Years ... next week.
- New Year's recipe ideas, hand-picked, including all the "lucky" foods for the new year!
Just Updated!
- Gourmet Chocolate Mocha Cookies, super chocolate-y.
- Perfect M&M Cookies, first to grab, first to run out.

Thank you for taking a moment to write! I read each and every comment, for each and every recipe. If you have a specific question, it's nearly always answered quick-quick. But I also love hearing your reactions, your curiosity, even your concerns! When you've made a recipe, I especially love to know how it turned out, what variations you made, what you'll do differently the next time. ~ Alanna
